Inspired by reciprocal structures, each piece supports the next in a balanced system, drawing from both Japanese and Italian construction traditions, engaging the user in an intuitive relationship with weight and gravity. Ishi-gumi continues the exploration of engineered marble from Stone Grove Pavilion (2024). The material, manufactured by Quarella, is made from stone waste, reducing environmental impact while producing a strong, beautiful surface. Guided by Kuma’s material sensitivity, Ishi-gumi becomes more than a stacking system—it is a bridge between past and present, merging tradition with contemporary design.
